7 Chakra Archetypes for Modern Times
π Rediscover ancient chakra wisdom through modern archetypal lenses.
The Chakra System
For six years prior to my profound Kundalini awakening, I diligently studied the chakra system and practiced many forms of kundalini yoga. I delved into various books and commentaries, familiarizing myself with the traditional depictions of lotuses, complete with petals and vibrant colors, along with their associated mantras and distinct characteristics.
Yet, it was only through my firsthand experience of awakening that I recognized a stark disconnection from these classical descriptions.
This direct encounter illuminated my understanding, highlighting a personal pathway that diverged significantly from traditional teachings.
Understanding Chakras Today
The chakra system is rooted in ancient Indian texts, notably the Upanishads, dating back to around 700 to 500 BCE. Naturally, their cultural references were different from mine. Since then, I have explored many different ways to connect with the experience of the chakras rather than their descriptions.
What follows is one of the many forms of transmission I have developed to help the reader get closer to the experience of the chakras using terminology that resonates with our contemporary cultural references.
Chakras, part of a subtle wiring network of nexus and ducts that facilitates energy propagation, can be experienced in many ways. The description that follows speaks to you through the archetypes commonly used to explain the experience. Each chakra can exhibit a light (expanded) or dark (contracted) aspect depending on the energy you channel through your body.
If driven by fear and ego, you might encounter the darker side of a chakra; conversely, if motivated by love and service, you will experience its light aspect.
The dark side represents an unbalanced, non-integrated aspect, while the light side denotes a harmonious, integrated aspect.
This table sets a framework for exploring how the energies of each chakra can manifest in extremes or in balance. Each archetype provides a lens through which we can view the potential highs and lows of our energetic expressions.
