The giant sucking sound you hear comes from a handful of growth experts talking about, you guessed it, growing on Substack.
And it’s all numbers, numbers, numbers.
10x this, 5 viral tips, 30 days to 1,000 subs.
The formula is big number + implied shortcut + here’s how I did it.
News alert. Growing on Substack while talking about growth is not the same as growing on Substack.
Of course 1,000 subscribers was easy for you. Try writing about something else then report back.
I’m with you. I have grown as a writer, and I’m finding my voice. For now, this is a place for me to think and write. Plus I have met some very cool people and creators writing about interesting things.
A handful of genuine human connections. Not many. But a few people outside my existing circles found me here, and the conversations that followed were real and valuable.
Ahahah, Gustavo, I thought of you when I wrote these lines... I knew you would resonate, we talked about and you are on of these humans I have met here, and connected with.
I found you on substack because aomwone I follow, follows you. I loved your analysis, although it made me sad and disappointed. I read substack for content- thought-provoking and inspiring posts. Clearly, I am non-compliant as I post as an artist, not a writer. Maybe I should start posting my poetry. I hope you keep posting.
HI Michelle, I ma grateful for any of the person I was able to connect with on Substack. Yes, I will continue to post, I am just stepping out of trying to get something out of it.
You speak the truth so clearly, which has so much value. Within the din of noise out there, I for one speak on behalf of many in saying we get so much out of what you're writing. We'll take what we can get, because where it comes from is so pure.
Seems like a healthy shift to make in where you are putting your energy. Glad you did this experiment for purely selfish reasons on my part, because I found you and you’ve made a difference for me, and Michele (above) found you through me because I posted one of your posts in our Mighty Network. But still I’m glad you are making this shift because clearly it is a bit soul-sucking for you. Thank you for so generously sharing yourself with us, we are the better for it.
Thank you for this Penny... This is why it was totally worth it in the end. I also met Gustavo K (above) through Substack and he is an exquisite human.
I am still learning, everyday, how to navigate unhealthy system in a healthy way.
My first book is coming out soon. I'll also use substack to share more, the piece that did not make it to the book, some conversation about consciousness etc.
I am not leaving, just changing gear. I want to write another book.
Yup, check, uh-huh, yes, ditto, ditto, yuppers.

Thank you being here!
Right back at you. I’ll connect with you soon for my session.
Very much looking forward to it!
Well said, and I will continue to support your work, as it feeds me❤️
Mutual uplift is the way forward!

Yes, poetry is amazing. Mystical in fact.

Awww, at a time when my subscribers count is reducing and not increasing, it feels good to been so deeply. 🙏
