Behind the Scenes; AI Usage and Integrity
š§© A transparent look at how AI collaborates with human creativity
Statement of Authorship
All ideas are mine.
All lived experiences are mine.
AI is a tool I use to support my thinking creative process, not generate ideas, thoughts, experiences etc.
My voice, insight, experience, creativity and deep connection with the divine lead the process.
AI Support Overview
Here is a step by step description of how I use AI for writing. My view of AI is that it is an advanced word processing tool, faster and more versatile than word processing.
Step 1: Idea Collection
Ideas emerge from my morning meditation or intuitive reflection.
I gather all ideas and I use AI to retrieve and sort through my own past writings to find relevant material, forgotten fragments in relationship with my ideas.
(Example: can you recall that experience in the Sahara in 1983 in the chapter ā20 years of chaosā? AI would retrieve information already written by me)For this I had to upload in AI all my previous writings. While this raises privacy considerations, I'm comfortable with this risk as it's my own material.
I currently use tools like ChatGPT and Claude for this process
Step 2: Idea Organization
My ideas come in a flood and are usually not linear. Within an insight there may be seeds for future articles that do not belong to the one at hand, digressions, parallel ideasā¦
I use AI to help structure the flow of ideas into a more coherent outline. I often reorganize the structure, since if AI is faithful with my text, often miss the subtle points of my argument. That is a key moment. I keep control of the development.
After this, I personally review and enrich it with new insights. This process spare me the ālogisticā of the text and provide a rich stage for brainstorming further on my own.
AI act as a mirror for my thoughts and creative process.
Step 3: First Draft
Once satisfied with the structure, I ask AI to generate a first draft based on my compiled and organized ideas.
This draft is always a starting point, not a finished product.
Step 4: Personal Revision
I create Draft 2 through deep personal revision. This is the longest phase, it can take days (when it takes AI second to answer, I work much more slowly than that!)
At this point, I may ask AI for feedback or questions, but I do not let it modify the text anymore.
The voice remains fully mine. When AI suggests words, expressions, or metaphors that are not in my regular vocabulary or writing style, I remove them and replace with language I am familiar with.
English is not my native tongue, AI helps me correct the orthography, the grammar, the format or sentences or some words that may come come from original "Frenchā.
Step 5: Research & Critical Thinking Support
During later drafts, I use AI to:
Find factual information (e.g., names, references, quotes) that I may have forgotten since the experiences I quote often happened decades ago. (For example, I might ask about details of my work in Mozambique in 1990 when I couldn't remember the name of the president and when he had been elected).
Challenge my views by asking for counterpoints or potential critiques.
These insights help me strengthen my arguments and deepen my clarity. Once again, AI is used as a mirror for my thinking process, not to replace it.
I have used AI to generate images for my post when I donāt have a personal picture to share. I have grown quite uncomfortable doing this as AI-generated images quickly lose their appeal and often lack authentic artistic identity. I'm currently exploring alternatives for visual content.
Ethical Commitments
Ethic, authenticity, vulnerability are at the core of my work, I apply it to my use of AI too.
I do not use AI to generate ideas, new posts or reframe / paraphrase the work of others to suit a personal agenda (and certainly not for profit š).
AI is indeed changing the world very rapidly. Some aspects are amazing and other quite troubling. I am not fighting what is, I am moving with it, trying my best to weigh-in where it matters
I retain full ownership and authorship over all content. My process is led by intuition and lived truth, not AI logic.
This document will evolve as my work grows and my relationship with AI develops. If you find blind spot in my disclosure, I would appreciate feedback. It is a complex issue and I do not pretend I have it all figured out.
Infinite Love
While, I donāt use AI for actual writing, I do use it sometimes for idea, organization, as well as an awesome thesaurus, as well as an editor of sorts. Because sometimes you need a second pair of eyes.
If there is a way to use AI and remain the author and creator of your own work - this sounds like it. This is not the first time youāre unfolding and moving with what is, is a welcome teacher for me.
